Since lockdown began, Heather DeBoer of Friendship Ministries Canada been sharing some tips to help Friendship Groups stay connected. One of her group’s favorite activities has been to have a season ‘kick-off’ pizza dinner. Here’s how Heather’s group made this exciting and socially-distant night happen!

“Families arrived with Friends and Mentors and were seated at their own table outside. We served them pizza, chips and drinks. The adult group homes were not permitted to join us for safety reasons, but we invited them for the drive-thru version. We could still say “hi” through the car windows and doors! Then we sent them home with pizza and care packages. We also blessed all caregivers with a card and a roll of peppermints!”

Heather’s group also made some beautiful welcome signs to cheer up Friends as they came into the driveway. As these are hard times for many of our Friends who are feeling very isolated, the families were very touched by this outreach. Suffice to say, it was a successful little outing!
